Vision Based Control of Rotary Wing Vehicles

چکیده
The work presented in this paper is intended as an introduction to a study being carried out at the University of Bristol in conjunction with the SEAS DTC and forms the basis for a PhD in aerospace engineering. The focus of the research is the design of control systems for small unmanned rotary wing vehicles which receive feedback signals from visual sensory devices to augment controllability. Over the course of the work, three experiments are planned in 1, 2 and 6 degrees of freedom in order to incrementally increase the demands on the visual control system and develop an in depth understanding of the Taleos vision system, supplied by BAE Systems, to be used. To date, 1 degree of freedom experiments have been carried out and have demonstrated the potential for using vision for control. The work has now been extended to 2 degrees of freedom, with the theoretical simulation of an appropriately restrained helicopter. Future work is planned based on the 2 degree of freedom simulations and extension to this is planned in the form of a 6 degree of freedom demonstration model.

Rotary Wing Final Experiments for the Software Enabled Control Program
On August 25, 2004, a series of final experiments were flown at the McKenna urban operations complex at Ft. Benning, GA. These experiments represented the culmination of the rotary wing segment of the DARPA Software Enabled Control program. To support these efforts, an open system Unmanned Aerial Vehicle testbed architecture was developed for the GTMax and GTSpy research aircraft. This paper in...

متن کاملLinear vs Nonlinear MPC for Trajectory Tracking Applied to Rotary Wing Micro Aerial Vehicles
Precise trajectory tracking is a crucial property for Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) to operate in cluttered environment or under disturbances. In this paper we present a detailed comparison between two state-of-the-art model-based control techniques for MAV trajectory tracking. A classical Linear Model Predictive Controller (LMPC) is presented and compared against a more advanced Nonlinear Model Pr...
متن کاملAutonomous Loitering Control for a Flapping Wing Miniature Aerial Vehicle with Independent Wing Control
Flapping wing miniature aerial vehicles (FWMAVs) offer advantages over traditional fixed wing or quadrotor MAV platforms because they are more maneuverable than fixed wing aircraft and are more energy efficient than quadrotors, while being quieter than both. Currently, autonomy in FWMAVs has only been implemented in flapping vehicles without independent wing control, limiting their level of con...
